“experience of working on the production of the 2012 Olympic Games ceremonies, plus concerts given by the Rolling Stones and U2″
This creative team has the collective experience of working on the production of the 2012 Olympic Games ceremonies, plus concerts given by the Rolling Stones and U2 as well as other major concert venues. Director Laurence Connor (25thanniversary performances of Le Miserable and Phantom) leads the team to bring this incredible spectacle – Jesus Christ Super Star Arena – to life.
Andrew Lloyd Webber says: “I’m thrilled that Australia is to be the first leg for our international tour of the new Jesus Christ Superstar. We had an overwhelming reception when the show toured the country for an astounding 84 dates in 1992. I hope this new production, which has been totally re-conceived for the 21st century, will entertain a new generation of Australians as well as those who already love the show.”
What is even closer to home is that Australia’s own Tim Minchin (Judas Iscariot) and Jon Stevens (Pontius Pilate) will join the cast on the tour of Jesus Christ Superstar Arena. Jon Stevens is no newcomer to the production, however, as he played Judas in the 1992 Australian Arena tour and again in the 1994 theatre production. Acclaimed newcomer Ben Forster will play the lead role of Jesus Christ Superstar and also featured are Melanie C. (Spice Girls) as ‘Mary Magdalene’, and Andrew O’Keefe as ‘Pontius Pilot’.

This brand-new production is fresh from London, where it has received critical acclaim as well as broken attendance records with 74,000 fans in the first weekend. Due to the overwhelming popularity, a third show has been added in Brisbane as well as in Perth. If you are a fan of the show, or even if you have never seen it, this production is worth the ticket price as it will be ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ as you have never seen it before.
